Iwa Yama Web Site
Welcome back everyone.
George Schlachter has been working diligently on our website and has put together a great format that will contain all updated club information. This includes a calendar with events posted for easy viewing! Although we are still in the process of getting this information to George, please view the work he has done, as the website looks great!
Neil & Sheila Walker have become the fundraising coordinators. Due to their hard work over the summer months, the falls first fundraiser was seemingly effortless and a huge success. Our first ever garage and bake sale raised well over a $1000 which will pay a portion of the bus fee to Carlyle. This will make the trip affordable to everyone. Thanks also to Shelley Tyson and Lisa Lutz for looking after the bake sale, which raised over a ¼ of that total! Also, to everyone that donated and came to help, we couldn’t do it without you. Left-over items with value were donated to Ross Ford School White Elephant program and household items went to the Diabetes Association
.Glamorgan Tournament

Carlyle Bus Trip & Tournament (Nov 28 weekend)
We have a bus for 55 reserved this year! We are determined to fill it with our club members and have a strong Iwa Yama showing at this year’s event. Last year we missed winning the trophy by 2 points!!! So…. C’mon you guys, I’m challenging you to come again this year and if you haven’t come before… COME! Guaranteed this will be the best trip ever! To break the trip up, we will stay over night in Swift Current again. We are planning to tour the under ground tunnels in Moose Jaw also a quick tour of Dog River stopping to get a group picture at Corner Gas. Then it’s off to Carlyle.
Our plan is to stay at a local school (in the gymnasium) to cut costs of hotel. However, if you feel more comfortable in a hotel, or billeting somewhere, we can also arrange that. A rough outline of the weekend will be: Friday, arrival at our billeting school, unpack / set up bedding, the bus will take us to the evening workshop with Sensei Denis (8th degree black belt and president of our organization). Go “home” sleep. Up the next morning for the tournament. Post tournament, back to the billeting school for pizza and movie night. Sunday, get up early for our bus ride back.
We will release the details of the trip soon, including cost and what you will need to bring. In the meantime… sign up! We have 16 on our list already and if we need to we will rent vans, so send me your name to be put on the list!
Olds Tournament (Dec 13)
For those of you that have never been to a tournament, this is a great one to attend. The Olds tournament is the first in 3 that we have for our clubs. We have select invites to other clubs which keeps the tournament to a nice size for those that may be intimidated by the idea of competing. Because it’s in your own back yard familiarity is a nice reassurance as well as your class mates being the majority of your competitors. The tentative date is Dec 13. Details TBA.
Bottle Drive Information
Fundraising is just one of the ways the Karate Club ensures everyone will have the opportunity to take part in karate events without the pinch of financial strain. We strongly believe that karate should be available to everyone with equal opportunity for everyone to take part in events, and travel.
So please get involved with our monthly recycling program!
You can help the club by saving your bottles & cans for the last class of each month!
A pickup truck will be available at the three schools for the last class of each month for collection. Thanks in advance for your help!
